Columbia to the Conejohela Flats
Water Trail
2 Hours
Start at Columbia River Park’s kayak launch, then head south past the town of Washington Boro and continue until you get to the Conejohela Flats. It’s a haven for hundreds of different species of migratory birds with tunnels through the mud flats.
Important birding area
The Conejohela Flats are a combination of small brushy islands and adjacent mud flats on the Susquehanna River. The Conejohela Flats Important Bird Area is recognized by the National Audubon Society and is one of the most significant inland stopover sites in the eastern United States for tens of thousands of shorebirds. The flats are part of the Atlantic Flyway.
