Susquehanna Riverlands Research & Education Center

Lancaster County Conservancy Research and Education Center at Climbers Run Nature Preserve

An historic barn built in the mid to late 19th century is the home of the Susquehanna Riverlands Research & Education Center (SRREC) at Climbers Run Nature Preserve. The SRREC supports research and education programming on water and natural resource issues within the Susquehanna Riverlands.

The SRREC actively models the mission of the Lancaster County Conservancy “Because clean air, fresh water and wild places are vital to every generation.” This site highlights working models of stormwater Best Management Practices such as rain gardens and a wildlife habitat and a stream restoration project that engages the public while reducing the flow of polluted runoff into the Susquehanna River and eventually the Chesapeake Bay.

The SRREC is less than 30 minutes from the City of Lancaster, offering numerous opportunities for the public to engage with nature.  Visit the Conservancy website at www.lancasterconservancy.org to learn more about hiking, hunting, and parking conditions and any restrictions.
